Thanks for the note--yes, I moved to Cullowhee when I was thirteen. "Youmans" is a Georgia name, mostly, as there were four brothers who came here before the Revolution, and three went to Georgia (bad move, probably!) Oddly enough, one stayed near where I am now. So the name is common in upstate New York as well. Odd.

My father was a professor of analytical chemistry at WCU, and my mother was head of Serials at the library. I figured that you must be very near my family home... I miss the weather and the landscape, though I'm still on the Appalachian spine.
