So here we are. Paul has been offered and has accepted a teaching position at a University in WNC. He is to be there the first week in August.
Our dream is coming true. We are going home.
We're also reducing our overall income by more than 40%. If I don’t find a job that pays close to what I make now, we’re reducing our income by >55%. We are on our way to a simpler lifestyle. But we're hoping it'll a lifestyle that we create for ourselves, rather than one that just happens to us.
I once read a passage by Joseph Campbell that went something like this:
As you go your way in life, you will come to a great chasm.
It’s not as far as you think.
Paul and I have come to a chasm. And we are preparing to jump. We can only have faith that Mr. Campbell is right and it’s not as far as we fear. We may stumble, make a few false starts, but we hope that in the end we’ll be able to look back and say—“That wasn’t so bad,” and know that it was worth it.
I plan to keep writing about our journey for this blog. To write more about the changes we’re making, the life we’re hoping to gain, the struggles, the rewards, the surprises, and the lessons we’re learning along the way. I hope you’ll join us, if only by reading about it.
